POWER UNDERTAKINGS
Nationalisation Issue Although the Government has not yet conSflered any proposals to nationalise the electricity undertakings of the Dominion, it appears likely that some such scheme will receive its serious attention-when time offers. This was indicated by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple, when discussing the Government’s public works policy in an interview last evening. “The question of making electricity a State monopoly has to be thought about very seriously by this Government,” Mr. Semple said. “We have not had time to go into any proposal of that sort, but certainly it has to be tackled. We must consider ways of bringing down the cost of power supplied to the people, and of making it possible for every home to have electric power, whether in the remote parts or in the centres.”
