KENNEL CLUB JUBILEE

Early Dog Fanciers Still Active “As we are to commemorate our jubilee this year, it is only fitting that mention should be made in this report of those who founded the club in XVellington,” says Mr. W. Barke. president of the XVell'ington Kennel Club, in his report on the past year’s activities. “During the first few years the club held its shows under the title of the XVellingtou and Intercolonial Dog Society, and it was not until 1890 that it assumed the title of the Wellington Kennel Club. The president was Mr.

T. Kennedy MacDonald ; secretary, Mr. D. Brand; treasurer, Mr. Robert Trlggs, and the committee included Messrs. XV. R. Morris and Chas. Stevens, both resident in XVellingtou to' day. At this -show we find Mr. Alex. I’. Smith, XVellington, who is still a frequent exhibitor, showing an Irish terrier. Mr. F. Rogen was an exhibitor of fox terriers. Messrs. A. B. Clater, John Philpot. Alex Bullingal and 11. N. XVatson, all exhibited smooth fox terriers. XVe hope to see a full muster of these early fanciers at our jubilee show in October.” Mr. Barke’s report states that the show, held in the XVellington Show Association’s building last October, was successful in every respect. A notable feature was the number of visitors from outside XX’ellington. Also the club’s efforts in the past two years enabled them to secure the services of an overseas judge this year, thus giv-

ing supporters an opportunity to receive an outsider’s opinion. Three parades were held during the year] and taking all things into consideration the results were successful. Naturally the efforts -of speeialLst clubs to build up their interests have had a tendency to reduce the interests of the parent body; however the final result was satisfactory. Present membership of the club is G 4, with 25 life members. Another successful financial year has passed; the balance-sheet shows a few pounds profit, and the club’s officers feel that the progress of the club has been accelerated, and the keen spirit generally maintained.
