BISHOP-DESIGNATE OF WELLINGTON

Arrival About Middle Of July CONSECRATION SOON AFTERWARD The bishop-designate of Wellington, the Ven. Archdeacon 11. St. Barbe Holland. rector of Hampton Lucy and Archdeacon of Warwick, will leave England for New Zealand in the Akaroa on June 10. and will arrive at Wellington about the middle of July. He wil.l bo accompanied by Mrs. Holland and their children, a son and a da quilter. The consecration of the new bishop will take place in St. Paul’s ProCathedral, Wellington, at the end of July or early in August, and his enthronement will follow soon afterward. Archdeacon Holland announced to his parishioners that his duties in the village of Hampton Lucy will terminate at the end of April, and he will preach his farewell sermon on April 26.

In the “Cathedral Magazine” the Provost, the Very Rev. IL T. Howard, says of the bishop-designate:—“Archbishop Holland’s apopintment to be Bishop of Wellington has sent a current of deep regret all through the diocese. but nowhere will it be more keenly felt than in the cathedral congregation During his six years as sub-dean he endeared himself to everyone, and there are still scores of people among us who count his friendship as one of the best things in life He has left an enduring mark upon the cathedral organisations, for some of the staple activities of the present administration are due to his creative mind. Personally. I cannot be too thankful for the gift of his friendship, leadership and advice. Our sorrow at separation from him is tempered by the joy that our friend is to sQend the next period of his life in a country and n sphere where his gifts of heart and brain and soul will have such an opportunity for usefulness. I can hardly imagine any man more fitted by temperament and experience for the particular colonial bishopric which Archdeacon Holland is unilertaking.”
