Two Wanganui Trainees

AVanganui, February 10.

Two trainees of the Western Federated Flying Club, Messrs. E. Lilburne and M. Earl, both of Wanganui, have received official notification that they have been accepted as members of the Royal Air Force. They intend leaving for Home soon. This makes the seventh club member to join the force. Cricket Draw.

Following is the draw in the next round of the AVanganui Cricket Association’s championship senior matches: United v. AVanganui, Cook’s Gardens No. 1; Technical College v. Marist, Cook’s Gardens No. 2; Technical College Old Boys v. Collegiate School, College Ground. The following is the position of. senior teams in the championship: Technical College Old Boys, 32; Wanganui, 24; Marist, 24; United, 22; AVanganui Collegiate School, 12; AVanganui Technical College, 4. Rotary Luncheon.

At 4110 w’eekly luncheon, of the Wanganui Rotary Club held to-day, over which the president, Mr’. R. G. Taiboys, presided, M r . J- Siddells gave an interesting talk on “Reminiscences,” which took the large attendance back over events which happened forty and fifty years ago. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Motion of Condolence.

The following motion of condolence was'passed , at this morning’s meeting of the Waitotara County Council: “That this council records its deep sorrow at the death of King George V and tenders our sincere sympathy to the members of the Royal Family in their great loss. We also desire to record pur most loyal allegiance to our new Sovereign, King Edward VIII.”

Responsibility Declined. Among the correspondence received at this morning’s meeting of the Waitotara County Council was a letter from a Lower Hutt motorist who, when travelling over one'-of the county roads in a car, struck an unlighted obstacle, damaging his vehicle to the extent of £6. He Intended to hold the council liable for the damage, but after the letter had been discussed members declined to accept liability.

Produce For Overseas. Two Home freighters which were loading in the Wanganui roadstead last week sailed on Saturday. The Port Denison’s cargo of produce for British markets included 19,000 carcases of lamb, 2000 carcases of mutton, 6700 bales of wool and 6000 boxes of butter. The Tairoa loaded a cargo which consisted of 7250 careases of lamb, 340 carcases of mutton, 150 bags of boneless veal, 3765 bales of wool, 114 casks of pelts and casings and 5660 boxes of butter. This cargo is also for Home markets.

Aero Competitions. Inter-club competitions between the AVanganui and Manawatu Aero Clubs ■will be held at the AVanganui airport next week-end. There is also the possibility of a Union Airways machine making flights at the airport.
