Waipawa Tennis Titles

Waipukurau, January 20.

The Waipawa tennis tournament was concluded on Saturday. Despite adverse weather conditions in the early part of the week the tournament proved a decided success. Finals not already decided resulted as follow :—

Men’s handicap doubles: Ormond aud M. Ormond defeated Morris and Peers, 60-45. Combined doubles: Sharpe and Miss Glenny defeated Hobin and Miss Astle, 63-56.

Women’s handicap singles: Miss Handiside defeated Miss Marshall, 50-48.

Porangahau Sports. The annual swimming sports were held at Porangahau during the week-end. results being:— Men’s championship: P. Murphy 1, B. Atkins and C. Hobson (dead heat) 2. Open dive: B. Atkins 1, K. Ross 2, P. Atkins and A. Hope (equid) 3. Women’s championship: Mjss R. Hobson 1, Miss J. Barlow 2, Miss M. Kuru 3. Bi eaststroke handicap: F. Bowling 1, J. Mackie 2, B. Atkins 3. Open dash: P. Murphy and Leedom (equal) 1. Barnes 2. Women’s dive: Miss M. Taylor 1. Miss R. Hobson 2, Miss Hutuna 3. Egg and spoon race: B. Atkins 1, Robertson 2, Hampton 3. Women's handicap: Miss R. Hobson 1, Miss Kuru 2, Miss Barlow 3. Boys under 14: Ross 1. Ripiha 2, Smith 3. Girls under 14: M. Smith 1, Q. Smith 2, Kuru 3. Boys under 16: Mackie 1. Douglas 2, Rosw 3. Girls under 16: Barlow 1, Kuru 2.

Waipukurau A. and P. Association Show. As compared with last year there is an increase of 178 entries for the forthcoming A. and P. show which is to be held at Waipukurau shortly. The axemen’s events, always most popular, have drawn 101 entries in all, an average of 17 for each event. The electric cooking class maintains its popularity.
