NORTHLAND FLOWER SHOW

Good Display of Gladioli

The Northland Horticultural Society's midsummer show was held at Bt. Alines Hall, Northland, on Saturday afternoon aud evening. Notwithstanding the late season there was a good exhibit of gladioli and good entries were received in carnations, hvdrungeus, and other cut Hower classes. The ladies' and children's decorative, and the children's domestic classes, which were well supported, were judged b.v 'Mists E. A. Beagley, ami all other classes in the show were judged by Mr. A. Soanes, of Christchurch. Special displays were made by Messrs. Griffiths nnd Jenkins (Karori), gladioli; Mr. G. E. Fearn, gladioli and hydrangeas, and Mrs. G. L. Corkhill, pansies. The judges, special and competitive exhibitors, and all helpers who assisted to make the show a success were thanked by the president, Air. G. >S. Nicoll, at the close of the show. In the gladioli open class, Mr. G. ream gained 12 points, thus qualifying for Mr. S. E. Lambert's trophy. . In the amateur class, G. S. Nieo.l gained two firsts (showing the champion bloom), and Mrs. von Keisenberg one first. In the AVestern Suburbs section, A. AV. Stanley gained four firsts and one second, winning Mr. and Airs. T. C. Bilby’s trophy for most points: also a special prize for best bloom in this section, donated by the judge, Mr. A. Soanes. In the novice class, Northland-grown: 11. S. Page won four firsts, and Mrs. von Keisenberg one second. Mr. Page won Mr. G. Fearn’s trophy for most points, and the late Mr. Weaver’s trophy for best bloom, Other details follow : —
