Increase in Australia HIGHEST FOR SIX YEARS Gold production, in Australia is making steady progress, and it is estimated that the yield for 1935 was 599,8730 z., an increase of abojit 13,0000 z. compared with the previous year. The record production in the Commonwealth was 3.83(1,OOOoz. in 1903, last year’s output being the highest since 1929. The yield is not a true reflex of the headway that has been made in production, as operations in Western Austral.a were suspended for about six weeks early in the year owing to a dispute in connection with working hours. Treatment at Mount Coolou in Queensland was also cheeked for .several months owing to a strike and to a shortage of water. Western Australia is the principal producer, with Queensland in second position. 4 ietorian output in the year showed a relatively substantial increase since, a number of small mines are now crushing, and owing to the New Occidental mine reaching the production stage the output in New South Wales has increased. Estimated yields of the various States compare with previous years as follow;

The value of production in 1935, based on gold at £B/15/- Australian currency, was nearly £8.000,000.
