Schoolgirl’s Fast Time at Wanganui
Wanganui* January 13. Completing a 50-yard dawli. in the St. George’s Gate swimming baths this evening in 31 1-5 seconds, Miss I’. Watts earned the right to represent Wanganui in the New Zealand junior championships, which will be held at Hamilton on January 25. 27 and 28. Using a powerful Japanese crawl, she swam the first length in 14 2-5 seconds, and finished fresh. Miss Watts is the present Wanganui primary schoolgirl champion, and district junior champion swimmer. She is the first girl in Wanganui for many years to swim the distance in that time, which is 2 4-5 seconds under the New Zealand standard time, and 1-5 second over the New Zealand record established by Miss D. Symon for a junior. Slie has also swum 100 yards in the remarkably good time of 73 seconds. High hopes arc held that Miss Watts will win the title at Hamilton. She is -a member Of the Wanganui Central Club.
