Competing in the Southern Transvaal athletic champiouships, E. Grirabeek defeated Dr. F. P. Reid in the 100yds., running 9 7-10 sec. against a breeze. An unusual incident figured at the start of the race, Reid (former champion of Scotland) developing eramp just when the gnu was to be tired. The start of th? race was delayed to enable Reid to receive treatment. Despite this experience, Reid was less than 2yds. behind Grimbeek at the finish.
Suzanne Lenglen's Mission. Fired, no doubt, by C'ochet s success. Suzanne Lenglen has written to Norman Brookes asking him about the chances of a tour by her lecturing and demonstrating, as well as playing exhibition games. The "demonstrations will probably include the latest dress tor tennis girls, .the clothing end being Suzannes specialty in France. One wonders what the lady thinks to-day of tennis shorts and scanties (remarks an Australian scribe). It is not so long since halt the world shuddered to see Suzanne show her substantial legs in short skirtb'-and paid high prices for another look.
