KIA ORA CLUB
Gathering at Sydney A delightfully informal gathering was held at tlie Pickwick Book Club, Sydney, recently, when the Kia Ora Club (N.Z.), held a Christmas party. It was quite informal in every way, with a buffet supper, and the hall was gaily decorated with a number of colourful silk New Zealand flags, lent by the New Zealand Government oflice for the occasion. A 171 b. two-tier cake, decorated with New Zealand and Australian flags (in recognition of the Australians present) held pride of place. Mrs. W. A. Taylor (wife of tlie newly-appointed New Zealand Commissioner to Australia) cut the cake. Tlie guests were received by tlie president, Mr. W. Freeman, and the organising secretary, Mrs. Stanley Hempton.' A delightful musical programme was arranged by Miss Enid Connolly. Tiie following visitors from New Zealand were present:—Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Short, Wellington; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Empson, Christchurch; Mrs. E. 11. Field, Auckland; Mr. F. E. Menzies and Miss Jean Menzies, Auckland: Mrs. 11. Wall. Dunedin; Miss Rae Bond, Wanganui, and about 130 other guests, who enjoyed the dancing and music.
