ST. ANDREW BURNS CLUB
The St. Andrew Burns Club held a musical evening in the Rechabite Hall this week, the president, Mr. J. B. Thomson, being in the chair. Songs were sung as follow: —“Coinin’ Thro’ the Rye” and “The Road to the Isles,” by Miss F. C. Mackenzie; “Just a Song at Twilight,” by Mrs. Smith, and with Miss Mackenzie a duet, “Isle of Capri”; “Trees” and “Turn Ye to Me,” by Miss Roberts; “O’ My Laddie” and “Laird o’ Cockpen,” Miss J. Stirling; “Macpherson's Massacre” and “The Barrin’ o’ the Door,” by Pipe Major MacCallum; “Mountain Lovers” and “Melisande in the Woods.” Mr. C. Wills; and “A Hundred Pipers” and “Border Ballad,” by Mr. D. Stevens. Elocutionary items comprised “A Cockney at the Pictures” and “Earthenware,” by Miss Spinks, and “Deputation to the Minister” and “The Power of Faith,” by Mr. J. B. Thomson. Bagpipe selections were also given by Pipe Major MacCallum. The accompanists were Miss Mackenzie and Miss Briggs. Two old Scots songs, “Bonnie Prince Charlie” and “Will Ye No Come Back Again,” were sung by Mrs. Rait. who recently celebrated her 87th birthday.
