Annual Review of Dairy Board PRICES AND STATISTICS The Dairy Board’s annual report, which covers production, prices and shipping for the past season, shows that, although considerably less dairy produce was shipped for the past ?eason, more f.o.b. and c.i.f. sales were made. Despite a reduction in the quantity of cheese exported, the price of our cheese on the London market has not responded. Owing bo the British Government’s policy of paying a subsidy on fresh milk, there has been a larger increased quantity produced, with a corresponding increase in the manufacture of factory cheese in Great Britain. Prices rose from 44/- in August, 1934, to 547in November, but by May of this year the price was back bo 44/-. Tlie report shows that for this season 18 per cent, was sold f.o.b. or c.i.f., as against 7 per cent, last year, clearly indicating that the board’s fixation of minimum prices did nob interfere w>th sales. Prices at which sales were made, and the board's minimum prices for the same period, are given in Uie report, and these indicate that in every instance sales were double. For butter a slightly higher average return is showing, as against the previous year. The reason opened on August 1 with butter round about 80/-, and the lowest point was reached in October at. 64/-. The market rose early in the year to 92/-, falling” gradually to the end of March, when it stood at 71/-, and thereafter rising until the end of May, it reached 82/-. The percentage of this season’s make sold f.o.b. or c.i.f. was 18 per cent., and in every instance the hoard’s minimum price was below that which offend. Only a small quantity of unsalted butter; amounting to 4917 tons, was made, this showing an Increase of appr. ximately 800 tons over that sent forward the previous year.
