STAR BOATING CLUB

Redding Shield Decision

September 2S was tentatively fixed as the 1935 mason opening day for the Star Boating Club, which held its annual meeting in tlie club pavilion last night. Principally for the reason that it was not to the benefit of oarsmen to race when out of training at the beginning of a season, it was decided not to enter crews as previously for the Redding Shield regatta on the opening day, but to make it more of a social event.

Tlie club had had quite a good season in some ways, but not in others, said the president, Mr. A. D. Bayfeild. It bad appeared in the Press that the club's finances were not-good, but so far as he could judge, the position was not so bad. During the season £6B was spent ,r >n the skids. This expenditure was unexpected and would not recur, at least for a number of years. When a club —particularly amateur — was called ou to face expenses to that extent, it was not surprising it made a difference in the balance-sheet. The sum of £4O was spent on oars.

Once again the club had been successful in winning a championship, and G. C. Cooke and F. H. Mullins were to be congratulated; Petone Club also had iron a championship and had come on very well. Wellington Club had won a great number of championships ; and it was pleasing to see that every club attached to the Wellington Association- had at least one championship to its credit. It was good to know that the club had been represented at » many regattas, as it hml always had a reputation for supporting other regattas throughout the Dominion.

Mention had been made in the report to °td records of the club which recently had been discovered. Mr. Bayfeild said it would be interesting if some of the old menib rs could see these. They should be placed on view ou opening day, or at some other time that these members visiter the club. Ollicers were elected as follow: President: Rt. Hon. Sir Francis H. D Bell; vice-president, Mr. A. D. B.iyfeild; captain, Mr. M. A. Turner; de-puty-captain, Mr. S. I. Kidd: treasurer, Mr. C. W. McCall; general committee: Messrs. J. F. Delaney.' L. I. Hosking, A ,R. Lawson. C. J. Mac Gibbon, J. I. Thodey. B. Webb and the officers (exofficioj; match committee, Messrs. Turner. Webb and Kidd: club race committee, Messrs. A. R. Burge, K. G. S. Cromie, and J. McK. Toms.
