AUCKLAND TRACKS

Kelly and Kiltowyn Do Good Work PREPARING FOR SPRING Dominion Special Service. Auckland, August 30. There has not been a great deal of activity on the Auckland tracks since the Pakuranga Hunt meeting last week, but with the approach of the Avondale spring meeting, matters should liven up almost immediately. The best work at Ellerslie through the ■week has been recorded by Kelly and Kiltowyn. Kelly is always very lightly weighted when he gallops, but he is completing his tasks in a fashion which pointe to him being ready for a good performance at his first start this season. Kiltowyn benefited by the race he had at the Pakuranga meeting, and be should be in fine form for Avondale. lie is looking a picture but needs a little galloping to bring him to concert pitch. The Te Awamutu horses, Tounerre und Musquil, have been sent to New Plymouth to compete at the Taranaki Hunt meeting to-morrow. Tonnerre is a speedy beginner who gained two wins and a second in three starts ae a two-year-old last season, and he should have excellent prospects among the hack sprinters. 9 Rerepai in Good Order. The four-year-old Rerepai has arrived at Ellerslie, and is now an inmate of F. Gilchrist’s stable. He is in good order and will probably race at the early spring meetings. . Rerepai did well last season, winning six races and accounting for £lll9 in stakes. The three-year f old Palardo had to be cased in her work fairly recently owing to giving herself a rick behind, but she is again attending the tracks regularly, although her latest tasks have been of tight nature. Palardo is a speedy filly and should have possibilities among the hack sprinters this season. Black Marlin Recovered. Blaek Marlin has recovered from the injury that put him out of action some weeks ago, and Jie is again being worked •at Ellerslie by R. S. Bagby, although at present his tasks are of the lightest nature only. Black Marlin is a capable hurdler when fit, and he should win more raceo if all goes well with him. Nothing very strenuous has been exacted from On Parade just lately, but he has been performing useful work in good style and is carrying a very bright and healthy appearance. On Parade .wound up last season with two decisive victories in the hack class, and he should prove very capable in middle distance handicaps this year. As a result of a splint she developed recently, Gay Marigold has bad to be cased in her work, and at present she is being allotted only the easiest of tasks. To ■what extent her preparation will be affected is not known at present, and when she is able to be worked in earnest again will depend upon how the trouble responds to treatment.
