MANY THEFT CHARGES

Husband and Wife and Another Man SUPPRESSION OF NAMES By Telegraph—Preas Association New Plymouth, August 29. Twenty-eight charges of theft, were brought against a husband and wife and another man in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. The articles involved were of a total value of £6O, and ranged from deck chairs to clothing and utensils. One of the charges of theft from a dwelling was indictable. Of the remainder, pleas of guilty were entered to 26, and the magistrate, Mr. W. H. Woodward, said he would announce on Saturday morning his decision whether counsel’s application for probation should be granted. He would also decide whether the indictable charge should be reduced so that it could be dealt with summarily. The names were suppressed in the meantime. One of the charges, relating to theft of a spanner, was dismissed. The period of the thefts was stated to be from August 22, 1934, to August 22, 1935, although one of the accused was only concerned in May, 1935. Goods were stolen from washhouses, clothes lines and motor-cars.
