PEACE BALLOT

Success of Movement In

Great Britain

Reference to the peace ballot conducted by the League of Nations Union iu Great Britain recently was made at the annual conference of the New Zealand League of Nations Union yesterday.

The Otago branch asked that very considerable publicity be given to the peace ballot and the great success and importance of the resulting reactions. That such a ballot had been successfully carried out in England, Scotland and Wales should give the New Zealand League of Nations Union a groat lift up, it was stated. Mrs. E. F. Denton Leach (Otago) said Otago was very much impressed with the success of the ballot in Great Britain. It was not the aim to attempt such a ballot in New Zealand at present. The New Plymouth branch forwarded the following remit: “That if a motion is put before the council for a peace ballot in New Zealand, the council be urged to refrain from this effort until more propaganda is distributed and more branches established.”

Discussion wffil be continued to-day.
