MAYOR’S BALL
Essay Competition
The annua] Mayor’s ball, organised to provide funds for relief of distress in Wellington, and to be held this year early in October, promises to be one of the brightest and most spectacular of this season’s social events. The coming event is to be a grand carnival of Shakespearean and classical costuming, characters to be selected from Shakespeare’s repertoire, and from other classical writers. The organising committee has decided to offer special prizes for essays as follow: — A prize of one guinea and a complimentary ticket (double) for the best essay on any Shakespearean character received from secondary school pupils. A prize of 10/6 and complimentary double ticket for the best essay on any character in classical Action, written by a primary school pupil. Essays to be limited to 1000 words.
Entrance for these competitions is free. Entries, which close on September 30, are to be forwarded to the hon. organiser, Mayor’s Shakespearian Ball, Town Hall, Wellington.
