TO-day's Recipe FESTIVITY CAKE
Beat one cup of butter and 6 tablespoonfuls of sugar to a cream; add 3 eggs, one at a time, beating after each. Into another basin sift 2) cupfuls of plain flour, 2 teaspoons spice, half a teaspoonful each of baking soda and cream of tartar. Add one cup each of sultanas and raisins, half a cup of currants, the grated rind of one fresh lemon, or 2 tablespoons of finely-cut peel, and a pinch of salt. Mix these dry Ingredients with the egg mixture. Put half a cup of treacle, and 1 teaspoonful of coffee essence Into a basin, and add half a cup of boiling water. Mix well, and add to the whole mixture. Bake in a slow oven for three hours.
