SOLO COMPETITION

Boys’ Institute Band Praise for the Boys’ institute Silver Sand was given at the annual solo coinpetition last night by the adjudicator, Mr. T. Gray, of Wanganui, who placed the awards as follow :— Champion class: J. Glennie (95 pts.), 1; runner-up. J. King (94 pts.). A class: M. Ward (89 pts.), 1; runnerup. H. Buck (88 pts.). B class: A. Buck (92 pts.), 1. O class: A. Sweeney (85 pts.). 1. Special medal donated by Mr. J. King for the competitor in the A, B. and C classes gaining the most points: A. Buck. After congratulating the institute and the director of the band. Mr. A. Iremonger, on the talent which had been shown, Mr. Gray said that several of the players showed signs of being coming musicians. He particularly mentioned the expert playing of A. Buck and J. Glennie.

The director of the institute, Mr. W. N. Dapper, thanked the adjudicator and the accompanist, Mrs. A. Duff, for their .services.
