LAWN TENNIS
New Zealand Association
ANNUAL MEETING There was a very large attendance last night at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, when the newly-elected president. Professor F. P. Wilson, presided. Reference was made by Mr. A. G. Henderson to New Zealand’s challenge for the Davis Cup. As Messrs. E. D. Andrews, A. Steelman- and C. E. Malfroy were in England, opportunity was taken, he said, to enter a team in the European zone. He was sure members would agree that the team bad done very creditably against one of the strongest nations in the world.
If, he continued, it were decided to make an Australian zone, New Zealand would have to consider entering a team in that zone. But it would have to be borne in mind that Japan and China might also enter in the Australian zone. In the event of New Zealand being drawn against Japan, and Japan were drawn first, New Zealand would, under the rules, have to go to Japan to play. Should New Zealand default 1 then the association would have to pay a forfeit of £25.
The following were elected the officers for the ensuing year: Patron, His Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Galway; president, Professor F. P. Wilson; vice-presidents, presidents of the various associations; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. N. Burns; management committee, Messrs. A. G. Henderson, JA. McGill. H. I. Graves, C. G. White G. Gore. W. J. Melody. Dr A. E. Park; honorary auditor. Mr. F. O. Austin; representative on the Lawn Tennis Association, London. ‘Captain V. C. Cazalet; representatives on the International Lawn Tennis Federation, Captain V. A. Cazalet and Mr. G. Gotz.
