CHATHAM CUP FINAL
No Medals For Runners-up
The council of the New Zealand Football Association has decided not to present medals to the runners-up in the Chatham Cpp final. At the last meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Football Association, it was decided to suggest to the council that medals be presented. “It is not the practice to present medals to the runners-up at Home, is it?" asked the chairman of the council, Mr. B. L. Salmon, last night.
Voices: No. “We can’t go throwing money about,” said Mr. Salmon, Mr. 11. 11. Renai said he did not see why the council should break away from the rule and give medals in this case. If it were done the council would be asked for medals by all runners-up. It was the custom at Home in all the principal cup matches for runners-up to receive medals, said Mr. A. E. Caisley. Tt had been said that the medals would cost £3, but that would not be satisfactory, for if the council were going to give medals they should be worthy of the occasion. Until the council could afford that it should not give them. The secretary. Mr. A. Williams, said he had intimated to the secretary of the Wellington Football Association that medals would not be presented. Mr. Williams's action was approved.
