Potatoes Dearer in Auckland

Dominion Special Service. Auckland, August 27. The potato market still mains the firming tendency of recent weeks and the demand is remarkably good considering the high prices'. Only a small shipment arrived to-day, but as merchants hold fair stocks there is no likelihood of a shortage. Loeal quotations are up from 5/- to 10/- a to if since last week. Onions are in short supply at present and prices have advanced to 22/6 per bag or crate. The position should be relieved next week when further Californian supplies are due. These arc being quoted to arrive at 18/6 per 1001 b. bag, ex wharf. There is a keen demand for pollard and bran, mill prices being: Pollard, £6/10/pcr ton; bran. £6. Oats are unchanged; B Gartons, 4/8 to 4/9 per bushel, and A Gartons 5/-. Maize is harder to procure and the price has hardened'one penny, old selling at 4/6 and new at 4/-1 per bushel.
