Wellington Senior Rugby League Competition DEFEAT OF CENTRAL The Wellington Rugby League’s senior competition for the Walmsley Shield concluded on Saturday, and was won by I’etone, which has a handsome margin of points. The Auckland League representative team defeated Taranaki in a high scoring game by 37 points to 14 at Carlaw Park in fine weather. There was a large attendance. In the first half Taranaki made a good impression and beat the Auckland forwards badly in the loose. Two splendid penalty goals from 40 yards out were kicked by Bedford. Auckland led at tlie interval by 13 points to 12 after a very even game.

In the second half the Auckland backs bewildered the opposition with clever in-and-out passing. The combination of Brown, Mincham and Bright proved too speedy. The local backs outclassed the visitors, whose defence was weak. Taranaki forwards battled gamely to Ivcat Auckland for possession from the scrums. Superior knowledge of the finer points saw Auckland iu a favourable light. Taranaki suffered numerous casualties. Keogh retired hurt. Play was generally fast and entertaining. In the latter stages Auckland took control. The visitors were in no condition to check the speedy thrusts by the local five-eighths. Hunt, Tamatea and Bedford (backs) made a good impression. For Taranaki McLeod and Davidson were the outstanding forwards. In a curtain-raiser Auckland B defeated South Island by 17 points to 9 after a splendid game.
