TREE PLANTING ON HUTT ROAD
Ceremony on Monday
On Monday next at 2 p.m. the first act of tree planting will be carried out by the recently-formed Wellington Beautifying Society, when 12 pohutukawa trees will be bedded into position on the border of 'the Hutt Road. These trees will form the beginning of a row of 2500 poliutukawas destined to line the road and to form a leafy harbour fringe, magnificent in the Christmas flowering season. The occasion will be marked by a suitable ceremony. The first tree will be planted by the patron of the society (Mrs. Knox Gilmer), and others by the Acting Prime Minister (Sir Alfred Ransom) and other Cabinet ministers, the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) and members of the society.
