Tn connection with the production of “Thi Yeoman of the Guard” by J C. Williamson. Ltd., Gilbert and Sulli van Opera Company at Melbourne, it is interesting to note that the first production in Australia of this opera was given by Williamson. Garner, and Mus grove at the Princess’s Theatre, Melbourne. on April 20. ISS9. The cast in eluded Nellie Stewart, William Elton. He ward Vernon, Clarence Leumane Stannis Leslie. Ida Osborne. G. Smeris May Pollard. T. Grundy. The musical conductor was Leon Caron: the stage manager. John Wallace, and the scenery was painted by John Brunton. It Is also interesting to note that in a newspaper critique of the opening performance the critic mentioned the fact that the audience apparently enjoyed the performance of this opera “which should improve in popularity as it becomes better known.”
