The Third Crusade

THE THIRD CRUSADE, begun in the year 1100, was a Crusade led by many kings. They were Phillip of France, Frederick of Germany. Conrad of Montferrat, Richard the Lion-Heart of England, and several others. Despite their quarrels as to who should be king of Jerusalem, they united under Richard’s leadership and captured the Moslem city of Acre, in Syria. Then some of them went home, but a remnant of the Crusaders’ army went under Richard’s banner to Jerusalem. It i.s this Crusade which Cecil B De Mille. the screen director, is now filming as a great dramatic spectacle, "The Crusades.” starring Henry Wilcoxon as Richard the Lion-Heart- and Loretta Toting as Berengaria.
