Four Planes Out Yesterday

WEATHER OUTLOOK NOT GOOD By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hastings, July 25. With some slight improvement in the weather conditions this afternoon, four aeroplanes from the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast aero chibs’ grounds wore able to go out at. about 2 o’clock in search of the missing airman Mr. Hamish Armstrong, but no trace of his plane was seen. Foot parties were unable to venture oni on account of misty conditions, which made Ibe task too dangerous. It is now nearly five whole days since Mr. Armstrong set out. for Hastings 4 and hopes of finding him appear to be remote. Indications ar the moment are that the weather would grow worse rather than better.

Owing to very adverse weather conditions making the going treacherous, tlie party of five members of the Manawatu and Rualiiue tramping clubs was forced to abandon the search for Hie missing airman, Mr. Hamish Armstrong. The trampers returned tc the city last night. After leaving Palmerston North on Tuesday afternoon, the party, iu company with a radio expert, established a base at mill, near Umutoi. Front the mill they climbed Toka, 5000 feet high, in the Ruahiue range. They encountered extremely rough conditions. Snow was falling, mid was 18 inches in depth at the summit. There was absolutely no useful visibility, and the party was therefore compelledto return.
