Young Woman’s Critical Injuries

Arising out of the shooting occurrence at. Te Afatai Road, Whakarongo, near Palmerston North, late yesterday afternoon, a young man. Manly Symes, labourer, aged 22 years, was charged in the Police Court this morning with assault on his wife. Elsie Elizabeth Symes, and causing actual bodily harm. Mr. IV. Lowe Black. J.P.. was on the bench. On the application of Detective E. Barling,* a remand was granted until August 1. Mrs. Symes was taken to ilie Palmerston North Hospital in a critical condition, a. pea rifle bullet having entered her stomach.
