Farewell to Eric Tindill

Practically every table was booked at the Mayfair Cabaret last night, when the Athletic Rugby Football Club held a dance, the object of which was to bid farewell to Eric Tindill, one of the club’s members, who has been chosen as a member of the .1935 All Blacks. The guest of honour was given a wonderful ovation when he entered, and was escorted to a corner dais over which was a banner, in the club’s colours (blue and black), bearing the word, “Farewell.” The cabaret presented a gay sight, spring flowers adorning all the tables and the supper rooms, where a buffet supper was provided. Further colour was added by the frocks of the women dancers. The cabaret orchestra was heard in dance tunes of all descriptions. The committee responsible for the arrangements comprised Mr. IL Austad. Mr. H. Murphy, Mr. F. Bezzaut, Mr. R. Lamberg, Mr. N. Boyd, Mr. J. Wells, Air. K. Davies, Mr. S. Johnston. During the evening, Mr. J. W. Heenan, a vice-president of the club, presented the guest of honour with a leather suitcase on behalf of the chib members. Mr. Heenan, amid thunderous applause, wished Mr. Tindill every success, and spoke of past All Blacks who had been members of the Athletic Club. Opportunity was also taken to present a silver cigarette case to Mr. H. Murphy, who will make the trip with the team. Both Mr. Tindill and Mr. Murphy "replied and received rousing applause. Among those present, in addition to representatives of various Rugby clubs, and other members of the All Black team, were Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Millard, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Dean, Mr. and Mrs. H. Hammond, Mr. and Mrs. Crichton, Mr. and Mrs. N. Ball, Mr. and Mrs. Pelham, Mr. and Mrs. Delaney, Mrs. E. Martin, Mrs. McGhee, Mrs. A. Pearce, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Brighton, Mrs. Newton, Mrs. Stopford, Mrs. Coulson, Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Osgood, Miss Troy, Miss Clegg, Miss Wilson, Miss Windley, Miss Bellamore, Miss G. Kemp, Miss Hedderwick, Miss Ferguson, Miss Gaby, Miss Hyland, Miss Maclndoe, Miss Olliver, and many others.
