THE SOCIAL ROUND
Consular Party t A handsome carved Maori box was the gift of the American Consulate to Mr. Walter Hoffman on the eve of his departure with Mrs. Hoffman to Spanish Honduras, and it was presented to him at a delightful cocktail party given in their honour by the Consul-General for the United States of America and Airs. G. A. Bucklin yesterday.
The guests, who were all members of the consular corps, and their wives, were received by Mr. and Mrs. Bucklin in the-reception hall of their home at Karori. Sprays of heavy blossomed japonica in tall vases were an attractive contrast against the dark woodwork, and gay anemones and freesias mingled with maidenhair fern decorated the drawing-room profusely and fragrantly. A table at one end covered with a beautiful lace cloth was laden with plates of dainty savouries and gleaming cocktail glasses. Mrs. Bucklin was wearing a graceful froclt. of black chiffon velvet.
