WELFARE WORK

W.S.P.M. Group Meeting The central group of the Women’s Social Progress Movement held its annual meeting at 60 Brougham Street, the residence of Airs. Clarke, yesterday afternoon. The president. Airs. J. Bennie, was in the chair and read a report of the activities of the group during the year. She stated that a considerable number of new members had joined the group, and urged them to further the work bv spreading the aims and objects of the movement. Thanks were extended to Airs. Alexander Gillies and Airs. Lawson for lending their houses for meetings on many occasions. Airs. Bennie also mentioned that the group was gratified to realise that it had awakened public interest in the work, and also that it was fortunate in having a credit balance for the year. Airs. G. L. Stewart congratulated Airs. Bennie on her report. Mrs. Berryman was the speaker for the afternoon, and her interesting address on women at the poll was much appreciated. Airs. Fergie and Airs. Dargaville gave pleasure with their singing. Officers for the year were elected as follow: President, Mrs. J. Bennie; secretary Miss Gibson; committee, Mesdames R. A. Wright, A. Gillies, Lawson, Strong, Clarke, A. E. Hunt, D. Anderson, Aliss E. Richardson. Afternoon tea round a glowing fire and thanks to Mrs. Clarke for her hospitality concluded the afternoon.
