First-class Schooling Effort Dominion Speciai Service Christchurch, July 24. Royal Liniond (D. O'Connor), and Monastic (R. Drinkwater), were responsible for a spectacular display over two rounds of the schooling steeplechase fences to-day. They kept together for three parts of tide journey, but over the second circuit Royal Liihond outjumped bis mate and completed his work by leading him over the last three obstacles. This was no doubt the best exhibition given by Royal Liniond on the schooling track, and he "showed no inclination to evade the sod wall on either occasion he encountered it. Monastic tUis hard put to it to keep up with Royal Liniond, but his showing was first-class for a comparative novice. Jolly Beggar, ridden by Dritikwafer, jumped six hurdles well, without being asked to put on much pace. He is to have a race at the Christchurch Hum meeting, and is to take his place in the field for the Grand National Hurdles, in which he will have the services of 11. Turner, who was associated with him in all his early schooling and racing. Burglar was booked to have had another schooling task over the country yesterday, but owing to suffering from slight lameness resulting from his previous, attempt, it was decided not to take any risks witli him. He worked soundly to-day and is to start in the Pareora Steeplechase at Washdyke on Saturday. He will be ridden by Mr. R. Westenra, son of the gelding’s owner.

The weather was fine in South Canterbury to-day, and this evening there was every prospect of it continuing for the races. The track is expected to be in fast order.
