Legion of Frontiersmen Ball

Hill Street was lined with cars last night, and St. Francis Hall packed with dancers, the occasion lieing the annual ball of the Legion of Frontiersmen. The hall had been specially decorated for the ball, large flags playing an important part in the general scheme. These were hung from corner to corner of the hall, and a large ensign was draped over the edge of the gallery. On the stage was a replica of the legion’s badge, a smaller one being placed in a prominent position iu the supper room. The motto on the badge is "God Guard Thee,” this being the one used by General Gordon of Khartoum, who had it engraved in Chinese characters on his signet ring. The supper-room was gaily decorated with rose pink streamers, while on the long tables, at which a sit-down supper was sowed, were wide streamers of red. which, with the white of the table cloths, formed the legion’s colours. The stairway was lined with draped flags, and the upstairs lounge cosily provided with rattan settees and easy chairs, also carried its quota of flags. The orchestra, a melodious combination of piano, Jianjo, bass, saxophone and violin. rendered modern and old-time tunes which wore greatly appreciated. During the evening novelty dances caused much amusement, and sonie exhibitions of tlie latest; ballroom crazes were loudly applauded. The host and hostess were Miss Evelyn Goldsmith and Mr. Brian MeCaw. The club colours of blue and silver were introduced into the ballroom decorations, where silver stars gleamed through the ferns against the walls and moons glimmered from the ceiling. The strong element of Spain in the majority of the costumes indicated that Wellington had, at no very distant date, gone distinctly Spanish. Sheiks and crinolines and a gay ballerina here and there provided variety, although a great many of the guests were in conventional evening dress.
