Ministerial. The Hon. E. A. Ransom, ActingPrime Minister, who had arranged to visit Dnnnevirke during the week-end, was unable to make the trip on, Saturday because of indisposition. A bad cold has kept him indoors for a few days, but he was much better yesterday and obtained a beneficial rest. ”■ n Sir Alexander Herdman lias been re-elected president of the Northern Club, Auckland. Dr. J. White, Dunedin, arrived from the south yesterday morning. Dr. Gordon Anderson has returned to. Wellington from the South Island. Mr. T. A. Elworthy arrived at Wellington from Timaru on Saturday morning.

Mr. R. Hudson was a passenger to Wellington yesterday from the South Island.

Professor P. W. Burbidge, of Auckland University College, arrived at Wellington yesterday from the south. Dr. W. J. Edginton, Whangaroa, left Wellington on Saturday evening for the South Island. Lieutenant-Commander G. St. A. Aleock, R.N., left Wellington for the north last evening. Mr. Maurice Ralph was a passenger last, evening from Wellington for the north.

Mr. G. McNamara, Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, returned to Wellington from the south yesterday morning.

Mr. E. C. Hands, general manager of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board, left Wellington on Saturday afternoon for the north. Mr: G. Rosenbaum, managing director of the Dominion Life Assurance Office, accompanied by Mrs. Rosen-; baum, is visiting the South Island. Archdeac6n Whitehead has accepted an appointment as vicar of All Saints’ parish, Dunedin. He will retain the wardensliip of Selwyn College, and in both duties wilt have assistance. Professor J. Rutherford, professor of history at Auckland University College, who has been attending the science congress of the Royal Society of New Zealand, at Dunedin, arrived at Wellington on Saturday morning, en route to Auckland.

Mr. J. Hargest, M.P. for Invercargill, who attended the meeting of the National Political Federation in Wellington last week, is at present in the Hobson Street Hospital. Mr. ITargest’s health has not been good during the past year and he was confined to hospital'for a time while the House of Representatives was in session last spring. Tlie Rev. Melville Holmes, formerly assistant curate at St. Mary’s Church, Karori, and late assistant curqte at Tauranga, sailed from Sydney for England by the Ormonde. He was the recipient of many good wishes and farewell gifts on leaving his parish. His future work will be in the Lichfield diocese.

Tlie Rev. Gordon Mackenzie, headmaster of the Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, and formerly assistant curate at St. Paul’s Pro-Cathe-dral and later vicar of Taihape, has been elected a member of the executive of the Association of Heads of Registered Secondary Schools in New Zealand.
