Exports last month decreased by £1,512,000, compared with those for April, 1934, and were only £402,000 ahead of those for April, 1933. On the other hand, imports last month were valued at £425,000 more than those for April, 1934, and £1,033,000 above those for April, 1933. The excess of exports over imports last month was £1,057,000 compared with £2,994.000 for April. 1934, and £1,691.000 for April, 1933. Exports and imports, expressed in New Zealand currency, for .the four months ended April 30, for the last three years compare as follow :—

Exports for the first four months of this year are less by £3,937,000, than those for the corresponding period of 1934, but are £3,000,000 above those for the first four months of 1933. Imports at £11,337,000 have increased by £1,652,000 on those for the first four months of 1934 and are £2.818,000 above those for the corresponding period of 1933. The surplus of exports over imports for the first four months of this year is £8,219,000, compared with £13,808.000 for the corresponding period of 1934 and £8,023,000 for 1933.
