SIGNS ON ROADS
Orchardist Refused Permission HUTT COUNTY ATTITUDE The attitude of the Hutt County Council toward the erection of hoardings was made clear at its meeting yesterday when the chairman, Mr. D. R. Hoggard, said that permission had been refused in some cases for aesthetic reasons. “We want people to say ‘what a beautiful place the Hutt County is’” he said.
The discussion arose out of an application from Mr. A. Brandt to erect a sign outside his orchard on the main road, Paraparaumu. The application was declined.
Cr. S. Blackley said that only a few years ago a resolution was passed forbidding the practice and requesting the county overseer to take down signs that had been erected without permission.
“Even if there is payment we should try to stop this sign business,” the chairman remarked.
