The challenge has been accepted by Christchurch, and the race has now commenced. A sum of £319 is needed if the goal is to be reached, and it is needed quickly. so that Wellington may reach the goal first. , Already £4O- is in hand. Next week a garden party will be held at the residence of Mrs. Herbert, The Terrace, when guests are assured of delightful entertainment. A unique "Old World .Mannequin Parade” has been arranged, showing frocks dating from 1800, and there will be dancing items and many other attractions. The mannequin parade and the dancing items will be given on the lawn at the bottom of the garden, and will commence at 2.45 p.m., the party opening at 2.30 p.m. This is the council’s first big effort toward the ‘‘penny trail.” ami it is anticipated that the result will take Wellington many miles across the Strait. Every day counts in an effort of this kind, and donations should be forwarded to Mrs. Dowsetf, 196 Taranaki Street, as soon as possible. There is an urgent need for funds, and all interested in this wonderful work with the children are asked to do all they can toward the success of this special effort.
