North Island Gathering

WAIRARAPA JOTTINGS Dominion • Special Service. Masterton, February 14. rßeports submitted to a meeting of the committee of the Wairarapa and Ruabine Aero Club last night by the various subcommittees set up to arrange mutters for the forthcoming North Island air-pageant to be held at Hood Aerodrome on March 2 indicated that the-arrangements were all . well under way. Replies were also received from aero clubs throughout the Dominion, giving promises of a very large gathering of aeroplanes for the pageant. It was reported that the flying hours for January were a little lower than for the corresponding period last year, the explanation being that the pilot-instructor, Flying Officer J. M. Buckeridge, had been on three weeks’ leave. However, despite this slight decrease, the total number of flying hours for the present financial year showed an increase of 72 hours oyer the number for the corresponding period last year.

Butterfat Pay-out. It was decided at the monthly meeting of the directors of the Mauriceville Dairy Company that the butterfat pay-out for January be B|d, a pound.

Booth Cup, Bowling. The following, rinks are to represent the Masterton Park Bowling Club in a match against the'Martinborough club, to be played at Martinborough on Saturday for the Booth Cup: Thompson, Williams, Southey, Lett (e.j.; Butler, Reader, Gibson, Ewington (si) ; Buckley, Jenkins, Braggins, Kilgour (s.). Amateur Athletics.

Strong fields participated in each event at the weekly evening meeting of the Masterton Amateur -ATliletic Club, on the Park Oval last night. Farewell to Priest. There was a very large attendance of the public at a farewell to the Rev. Father A. Doherty in the Eketahuna Public Hall recently. The first half of the programme consisted of a number of concert items, after which the Mayor. Mr. W. Simpson, officially farewelled the guest of the evening, who after 12 years’ work in Eketahuna is leaving to take up duties at Wairoa. Hawke’s Bay. Mr. Simpson said that Father Doherty had earned the esteem of the whole district, and he would be greatly missed. Several other speakers endorsed the Mayor’s remarks, after which Mr. Simpson presented the guest with a filled wallet, on behalf of the public.- Father Doherty replied saying that he was very sorry to leave the district, but he thought it was time the pnrishoners had new blood to lead them further along the road. Supper was then served, after which dancing was indulged in. MANAWATU CROQUET Annual Tournament Palmerston North, February 14. The Manawatu Croquet Association’s annual tournament was continued on the Northern and Manawatu Clubs’ greens today.
