CURING CRIME BY SCIENCE
Work of British Institute London, February 13. Curing crime by science may take a step forward now that the Institute for the Scientific Treatment of Delinquents is being opened. The in-patients’ clinic will deal with offenders who have repeatedly been beforei the courts, yet who are manifestly likely to benefit from medical attention. Investigation has shown that such treatment may usefully occupy two years. If a new habit of mind is created the in-patients’ department may enable magistrates to find a much-needed substitute for prison. The institute has already a staff of 21 doctors and its work is extending to the provinces.
