Tour Opens With Record Javelin Throw By Telegraph.—Press Association. ■New Plymouth, February 13. The British and Finnish athletes began tlieir New Zealand tour at Haweia to-night, a feature being a record javelin throw by Sippala of -l‘~ feet 4 inches. . , . Craske won the mile easily in 4iuin. 24 4-ssec and Murdock the furlong in 24 4-ssec. Powell ran half a mile in Imin. 58 4-ssec.. but found the handicaps too long. Black. New Plymouth, heat Murdock in the 100 and Rampling in_ the quarter. running 10 l-ssec. and 51 2-ssec. In the difficult night light Peresola jumped 6ft 4in. easily, just failing at 6ft. 6iin. There was an attendance of 1000.
