MENACE OF PIRATES
British and Chinese to Co-operate MEASURES FOR CONTROL (Received February 13, 10.55 p.m.) Hong-Kong, February 13. According to Chinese reports from Canton there is to -be greater AngloChinese co-operation against piracy. The Kwantung provincial authorities have undertaken to clean up the Bias Bay region, utilising troops for the phrpose, while armed launches and gunboats will be used along the coast instead of the larger warships. British warships are to be permitted to land bluejackets on Chinese soil in pursuit of pirates. It is also stated that a private signal will be arranged between merchant ships and British warships for use when suspected pirates are aboard the former.
