Figures Cause Anxiety (Received February 13, 7.55 p.m.) London, February 13. The political correspondent of “The Times” says that the unemployment figures are causing anxiety. The Empire Industries Association’s Parliamentary Committee has decided to ask Mr. Baldwin to receive a deputation regarding the matter. The “Daily Mail” says that the meeting also considered a memorandum declaring that stagnation and unemployment were largely due to increased imports necessitating more drastic protection. BILL READ SECOND TIME. London, February 12. In the House of Commons the Unemployment Bill passed its second reading without a division. The Bill guarantees at least the same payments to those who are unemployed as before the passing of the Unemployment Act, 1934. 40-HOUR WEEK IN ITALY . London, February 12. ’ The Milan correspondent of “The Times” says that it is , officially announced that since the 40-hour week came into operation on December 1 over 200,000 persons have returned to work.
