WESTPORT-STOCKTON COAL Small Net Profit Shown The directors of the Westport-Stockton Coal Co., Ltd., in their report for the year ended Decelnber 31. 1934 state the year’s output was 102,731 tons as against 105,648 tons during the previous year. After making provision for taxation and depreciation, the year's operations resulted in a profit of £1023/6/6, which the directors recommend should be carried forward. The retiring directors, Mesters. C. O. Farr and C. G. MeKellar, offer themselves for re-election. The balance-sheet shows liabilities as follow: Capital, issued, £197,785/10/-; secured debentures and interest accrued, £49,181/3/-; sundry creditors. £5649 5/7; profit and loss account, £5280/4/7. Gold Mining Returns Gillespie’s Beach Gold Dredging Co., Ltd., yesterday advised the Stock Exchange Association that the wash-up was 13oz. The dredgemaster reported that the dredge was running well, and prospects were improving. , The Mossy Creek return was 21oz. 4dwt. from 4400 yards dredged. The Waimumu Sluicing Company’s return was 9oz._ 9dwt. for 122 hours’ operations. Work has been suspended again owing to water shortage. SYDNEY WOOL SALES' Better Class Sorts in Demand (Received February 12, 8.’55 p.m.) Sydney, February 12. At tlie wool sales to-day, 12,125 bales were offered, 11,265 being sold at auction and 1964 privately. There was a spirited demand tor the better class wools, the main supporters for these being oYrkshire buyers, and to a less extent Germany and France, while Japan absorbed ordinary top-making sorts. Skirtings also met a strong demand, and there was a good inquiry for comebacks and fine crossbreds, but medium to coarse descriptions were somewhat irregular. Five bales of superfine merino fleece from Yass made a new Sydney record of 22}d. Average prices obtained tn the Sydney wool market for the season to date are as under:—
