Fracas in Scouts Camp

(From "The Dominion,” February 8, 1910.) On Sunday evening a report of a serious fracas which was alleged to have occurred at the training camp of the Dominion Scouts at the Hutt Park was received at “The Dominion” office. Yesterday a representative of “The Dominion” made certain inquiries which seem to establish the fact that at an early hour on Sunday morning an incident occurred in the officers’ quarters of the Dominion Scouts, which may be attended with unpleasant consequences. About 1 a.m. on Sunday one of the subaltern, officers of the corps is said to have become involved in a heated altercation with his commanding officer. The captain became incensed 1 and struck his junior. The subaltern retaliated, and, it is said, knocked his assailant down. An unseemly fracas ensued until another subaltern interfered, and with the assistance of some of the men. separated the two. In the morning the matter was reported to the senior officer present. Both men have been placed under arrest, and a Alilitary Court of Inquiry has been set up to investigate the circumstances and report.
