Tria/ngular Coaitest. Next Tuesday teams from the Wellington and Hutt clubs will leave for Wanganui, where the following day they will play the Wanganui club for the Duthie Cup. Electric Mowers.

Several bowling greens in Wellington are now being mown by electricity and those responsible for the conditions of the greens are enthusiastic over the innovation. The Thorndon. club recently purchased an electric mower following the experience of the Lower Hutt club with one. It is similar, in general design to a hand mower, cutting an 18-inch swath with its ten-bladed cylinder. The motor is mounted on top of the machine in the centre and revolves the blades via a short belt. The motor does not propel the mower, but supplies all the energy for cutting the grass. The machine is pushed along by hqnd, a long flexible wire being trailed behind for the current supply.

At the Thorndon club the opinion is definitely held that the sward is better when cut with the electric mower. The machine cuts equally well at all speeds without vibration. The greenkeeper has to adapt his method of mowing to allow for one of the disadvantages of the electric mower, the wire, and keep the wire trailing on the part of the green he has mown go as not to run over the cable. The green can be mown in almost as short a time as by hand, and it is anticipated that when the greenkeeper has become used to the new machine it will be done even faster. However, the real advantage of electric mowing is said to be in the quality of the work. NEW ZEALAND SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP. The Blue Riband of Ndw Zealand Bowls was won tills year by Mr. A. Engebretsen, of the Napier Curb, who proved to be the outstanding player of the tournament. Mr. Engebretsen plays with HENSELITE BOWLS, the most perfect bowl. made.
