SPEEDWAY ACCIDENT
Death of Prominent Dirt Track Rider EVIDENCE AT INQUEST By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, February 6. An inquest into the death of Charles Edward Blacklock, dirt track rider, on January 27 after receiving injuries iu a race at the Monica Park speedway on the previous evening, was held to-day. v The coroner. Mr. E. D. Mosley, found that Blacklock died of laceration of the brain and a fracture of the base of Hie skull, all the evidence showing that tlie occurrence was purely accidental. Raymond Stavert Taylor, a participator, in the race in which Blacklock was injured, said the track was in good condition. The starters were Higgins, Kirkman, Blacklock and himself. At tlie time the accident occurred Higgins, who had a handicap, was leading from witness and Blacklock, who were close together. Higgins fell in an overslide on the bend and witness, who was on the outside of Blacklock, swerved to .the right to avoid the machine, as it lay across tlie track. Witness touched the back wheel and fell. At tlie same time Blackloek swerved to the left, but hit Higgins’s machine in tlie centre and Was catapulted into the air. His machine, following him, struck him on tlie back of the head. Kirkman also gave evidence corroborating Taylor’s account. Both, witli other witnesses, declared the whole occurrence accidental.
