TORNADO STRIKES TOWNSHIP
Timber and Iron Hurled Through Air INHABITANTS RUSH INTO STREETS By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received February 5, 10.25 p.m.) Sydney, February 5. A mild tornado struck the coalmining township of Bellbird in the northern coalfields to-day. One house was wrecked, the roofs of many more blown off, and timber and iron were hurled into the streets. The inhabitants, terrified, rushed from their homes and were enveloped in the dust and debris falling about them. The disturbance lasted only a few minutes, but at Cessnock, three miles away, nothing more than a slight breeze was experienced.
