BANKING POLICY
Nationalisation Opposed CANADIAN MINISTER (Received February 5, 8.10 p.m.) Ottawa, February 4. Opposing a proposal to nationalise the banks by Mr. William Irvine, of the United Farmers’ Barty, Mr. E. N. Rhodes, Minister of Finance, told the House of Commons that if the banks were socialised the Government would control banking principles and eventually smash them. He asked what would happen if a Government facing an election had to choose between the country’s good and its own political fate.
