Stressing that Japan is not making any “demands” on China, the Foreign Spokesman summarised the recent Sino-Japanese conversations at Nanking as being along general lines in tvhich the Chine.se want an assurance that Japan has no intention of aggression. while Japan insisted that a cessation of the anti-Japanese movement is as essential to Sino-Japanese ainicab.e intercourse. He added that Japanese shippings probably following British lines, , will consent to the transport of Chiang-kai-shek’s troops up-river to combat Chinese Reds, and also reiterated that there is no likelihood of Japanese loans to China. AGREEMENT REACHED Jehol Border Dispute Peking, February 3. Following a week’s preliminary conversations the Chahar-Jehol border dispute has been settled at a conter- ■ ence between Chinese and Japanese military officers. • , According to the Chinese official version a verbal agreement was reached whereby the Japanese undertook to withdraw their troops from the disputed area, while the Chinese pledged themselves to remain west of the Great Wall.
