Ceylon Malaria Epidemic RELIEF MEASURES IN HAND Colombo, February 3. . In January there were 7038 deaths from malaria in the Korth-western Province of Ceylon. The normal death rate is 700. Eighty per cent, of the deaths are of children. The Government is endeavouring to secure the services of Lieutenant-Colonel S. P. James to direct an island-wide campaign against malaria. Colonel James worked in Ceylon 22 years ago. An Indian medical relief party is expected next week. The epidemic is definitely on the decline, but a food shortage is feared. Government relief measures are in full swing.
